Donning & Doffing

Before getting started, it’s important to note a few things:

  1. For first time wearers, be sure to consult your doctor before deciding to wear Medical Compression Stockings (MCS).
  2. Make sure your MCS are the correct size and fit you exactly.
  3. Never fold over the top seam – this will double the pressure which can lead to dangerous constriction.
  4. If the pain in your legs increases when you are wearing MCS, or if you feel unwell, consult your doctor immediately.
  5. Your MCS should last you approximately six months. In order to ensure this longevity, make sure you wear suitable shoes that will not damage the sheer knitted fabric of the stockings, and avoid certain creams, ointments and oils that can ruin your stockings or leave stains. It’s also important when donning and doffing to avoid sharp-edged rings, bracelets or watches, as well as sharp or cracked fingernails to preserve the delicate fabric of your MCS..
  6. After six months of use, the medical efficacy of your MCS can no longer be guaranteed so we recommend you buy new stockings.

Donning Stockings

  1. Make sure that neither your feet nor your legs are wet or damp.
  2. Turn the leg of the stocking inside out down as far as the heel, i.e. except for the foot, the inside of your stocking should be facing outwards.
  3. Use both thumbs to stretch the foot of the stocking open and pull your stocking over your foot.
  4. Grip the upper edge of the stocking and pull it over your heel.
  5. Once the entire leg of the stocking is above your ankle, reach inside with both thumbs and gently massage the fabric up your leg with a zigzag movement. Since MCS are made of highly elastic material, it’s important that you do not pull the top seam up as hard as you can.

Doffing Stockings

  1. Pull the upper seam of the leg down to the ankle.
  2. Press both thumbs between the strap and the leg and pull it over your heel.
  3. Slowly pull the stocking over your foot.
