Risk Factors for Teachers

Prolonged standing at work is believed to be a critical risk factor for Chronic Venous Disease (CVD). Of the roughly 3.5 million public school teachers in the U.S., 76% are female, and research shows that women are more susceptible to developing CVD due to hormonal changes throughout their lives. Women also tend to wear heels and sit cross-legged, increasing the risk of CVD even further.

People working in a standing posture are at a significantly greater risk for CVD than those working in a prolonged sitting posture

Tips for Staying Healthy

CVD symptoms of pain, swelling and leg fatigue are frequently found amongst teachers and often negatively impact their quality of life. The regular use of compression stockings while working can reduce or prevent swelling and leg discomfort for teachers.
